Today, we had the privilege of welcoming several key figures from Wirral Council to Wirral Ways. It was an opportunity to shine a spotlight on the work we do every day to support people in their recovery and to demonstrate how integrated, person-centred services are making a real difference in our community.

Joining us were:

  • Cllr Julie McManus, Chair of the Adult, Social Care and Public Health Committee
  • Sayyed Osman MBE, Director of Adults, Health and Strategic Commissioning
  • Dave Bradburn, Director of Public Health
  • Gary Rickwood, Commissioner of Public Health and Addictions

The visit was led by Gerry Pangalis, Services Manager, and Jacob Jones, Volunteer, SUI & Comms Lead. The group began their tour at our community partner venue, Nightingales CIC, before exploring our Price Street and Market Street sites—getting a first-hand look at the wide range of recovery services we offer.

A Glimpse Into What We Do

At each stop, our passionate staff and volunteers shared insight into how their services support both mental and physical wellbeing, recovery from addiction, and community reintegration:

  • Art Therapy: Facilitated by Laura Hogan, this session highlighted how creative expression can support mental health and emotional processing in recovery.
  • Gym & Fitness: Jen Bibby and Jackie Intejekostas explained how physical health and routine play a vital role in building confidence, structure, and resilience.
  • Ambulatory Detox: Steve Kelly walked visitors through the non-residential detox process, showing how this flexible model can empower people to start their recovery journey safely.
  • Outreach: Simon Rimmer and Leo Phillips spoke about our work in the community, including in hostels and with individuals affected by cuckooing and street homelessness.
  • Medication Project: Pete Berry shared the innovative ways we’re supporting people to manage dependence on prescribed and over-the-counter medications, with care that’s tailored to individual needs.

At Market Street, visitors also toured our Recovery and Clinical Floors, gaining a deeper understanding of how clinical support is seamlessly integrated with holistic services. The visit concluded with a talk from Dr. Aadil Shah, who provided an overview of Buvidal, a long-acting treatment for opioid dependence that is offering many clients greater stability and independence.

A Huge Thank You

To Cllr McManus, Mr Osman, Mr Bradburn, and Mr Rickwood—thank you for your time, your interest, and your continued support. Our doors are always open, and you’re welcome back anytime.
