Buvidal Project
Buvidal is a long-acting injectable form of buprenorphine, used to treat opioid dependence. It’s given weekly or monthly, offering more stability and reducing the need for daily supervised dosing. Wirral Ways run an innovative Buvidal project supporting 100 individuals who face challenges with traditional opioid substitution treatment. The project includes two dedicated keyworkers, a group facilitator and a Non-Medical Prescriber (NMP), providing wraparound support tailored to each person’s needs.

OTC & Prescribed Opiate Pathway
Our Over the Counter and Prescribed Opiate Pathway is led by a specialist Senior Practitioner, working closely with local pharmacies and GP practices. Through a joint, multi-professional approach involving GPs, Health Coaches and Pharmacists, the project supports people to reduce reliance on prescribed or over-the-counter opioids and build safer, healthier lives.
Individual Placement Support (IPS)
Wirral Ways offers Individual Placement and Support (IPS) to help people in recovery find and sustain meaningful employment. We work in partnership with Recovery Works (The Growth Company). Our IPS Employment Specialists work 1:1 with individuals to understand their goals, build confidence, and connect them with the right job opportunities. We also support employers and work alongside clinical teams to ensure work becomes part of someone’s recovery, not a barrier to it.

HIV & STI Testing Partnership
We’ve partnered with Sahir (House) to offer inclusive, stigma-free support around HIV and sexual health. Through joint outreach, testing, and education, we help people access STI screening, HIV testing, and ongoing wellbeing support—especially those who may face barriers to traditional services. Together, we’re breaking down stigma and building health equity across our communities.
Needle & Syringe Program
We provide accessible Needle and Syringe Programmes (NSPs) to reduce harm and keep people safer. Available across our sites and through pharmacy partners, our NSPs offer clean injecting equipment, harm reduction advice, and a non-judgemental space to talk. We support people to make safer choices, prevent the spread of blood-borne viruses, and access wider health and treatment services when they’re ready. We also work with pharmacies to offer NSPs in the community.
